President Jonathan Appoints 93 new ambassadors

President Goodluck Jonathan, Tuesday, appointed 93 new ambassadors to serve as Heads of Mission, Deputy Heads of Mission and seven ambassadors-in-situ, to be domiciled in Nigeria.

 

Some of the 93 ambassadors are Ojo Maduekwe, former minister and Peoples Democratic Party stalwart; Taofeek Arapaja, former deputy governor of Oyo State; Cornelius Oluwateru , former deputy governor, Ondo State; Akinyemi Farounbi, veteran journalist and former General Manager of Nigerian Television Authority, Ibadan; .

 

Also among the envoys are 11 women including, former Minister of Aviation, Fidelia Njeze; Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, wife of late Biafra leader, Odumegwu Ojukwu; Hadiza Mustapha; Victoria Onipede; Katherine Okon and Chigozie Obi-Nnadozie.

 

Other female envoys are Matilda Kwashi, Katyen Jackden, Nonye Okpara, Sifawu Momoh and Martine Gereng-Sen.

 

The ambassadors-in-situ, who would be domiciled in the country, are the State House Chief of Protocol, Olutola Onijala; the Presidential Liaison Officer, Abubakar Waziri, Ridhwan Mustapha, Ozoemenam Nwobu, Sunday Omoigiade, Harrison Solaja and Abdulkadir Musa.

 

President Jonathan admonished the new appointees to see their new positions as an opportunity to project Nigeria to the world as an indivisible national entity. He urged them to defend the interests of Nigerians living and operating lawfully in their countries of accreditation.

 

"Wherever you are posted, you do all within your competence and power to make sure that you project Nigeria as a united indivisible nation and you must encourage that unity among our people in the Diaspora," the President said.
