Published in The Nation Written by Adekunbi Ero
A Convergence for Women
At the first Dr. Abel Guobadia Memorial Lecture, speakers disagree on how women can be accommodated in the mainstream of politics and decision-making process in the country   No one could have been more eminently qualified to speak on the topic, The Role of Women in Safeguarding the Nation’s Health, at the first Abel Guobadia Memorial Lecture held in Benin City, Edo State, recently than former President Olusegun Obasanjo in whose administration – 1999 to 2007 – women were given prominent and challenging roles in governance and government.   His administration threw up, among others, the likes of…

The Intrigues of Demuren’s Sack

Published in The Nation Written by Muyiwa Lucas
Harold Demuren
For the second time in his career, Harold Demuren, former director-general, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, is sacked. Stakeholders, however, believe he was a victim of power play   Harold Demuren, who was sacked last week as director-general, DG, of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, was a victim of high-level power play and intense politicking. While his credentials as an aeronautical engineer cannot be questioned, it was glaring that he was not well schooled in the art of handling political posts.   The decision to sack the erstwhile DG, the magazine gathered from sources close to the Presidency,…

Aero Strike keeps Passengers stranded

Published in The Nation Written by Muyiwa Lucas
A strike action embarked on this morning by staff of Aero Contractors has left hundreds of intending passengers booked on the airline’s flights stranded at the Murtala Mohammed Airport 2, MMA2. Building a City on Water

Published in The Nation Written by Folashade Adebayo
Prototype of Eko Atlantic City
Sitting on nothing other than 140 million tonnes of sand, the Eko Atlantic City is one of the most impressive and massive urban land reclamation projects in Africa   Imagine a magnificent stretch of white sand nestling the Atlantic Ocean. Sand dunes stood around the expanse of land in an imposing barricade. Really, except for the missing mummies, it could have been Egypt.   Here, as far as the human eyes could see, gigantic rock boulders fenced the Atlantic Ocean. This is the Great Wall of Lagos, a cue from the famous Berlin Wall and the Great Wall…
